About

  • A comprehensive plan is a strategic document that guides the long-term development and growth of a municipality or region. It consists of three main components:

    1. Background Studies: These involve data collection and analysis of current conditions, including topics like demographics, land use, housing, transportation, and community facilities.

    2. Community Development Goals and Objectives: Based on the background studies, this section outlines the municipality's vision and priorities for future development and addresses identified constraints, problems, opportunities, and needs.

    3. Plans for Future Actions: This includes specific strategies and alternative actions related to various components such as future land use, housing, transportation, and community facilities.

  • Comprehensive plans are tools to assist municipal governments with informed decision-making. They ensure that development aligns with the community's goals and provides a framework for zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and municipal investments. Additionally, having an up-to-date comprehensive plan can make municipalities eligible for certain state grants and funding programs aimed at community development and planning.

  • Media’s comprehensive plan is directed by a Steering Committee that includes the Borough Manager, Council members, planning commissioners, key staff, and other community leaders (see OurMedia2035.com for more information). The Borough has hired a consultant, FHI Studio now IMEG, as part of a competitive bid process to perform the technical work and write the document. The Borough’s boards, commissions, and committees will be actively involved in the planning process, as will residents, businesses, and stakeholders. At the end of the process, the Planning Commission will hold a hearing and then provide a recommendation to the Borough Council, who will ultimately adopt the Comprehensive Plan.

  • The development Media’s Comprehensive Plan involves several key tasks:

    1. Data Collection and Analysis: Gathering and examining information on existing conditions, such as demographics, land use, housing, transportation, and community facilities.

    2. Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Soliciting input from residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to understand their needs, preferences, and vision for the community's future.

    3. Goal and Objective Setting: Establishing clear, strategic goals and objectives that reflect the community's aspirations and address identified issues.

    4. Plan Formulation: Developing specific policies and strategies to achieve the set goals, including proposals for land use, infrastructure improvements, housing, and economic development.

    5. Public Review and Feedback: Presenting the draft plan to the public for review and comment, ensuring transparency and community involvement.

    6. Plan Adoption: The Borough Council formally adopts the comprehensive plan, incorporating feedback and making necessary revisions.

    7. Implementation and Monitoring: Executing the plan's recommendations through zoning ordinances, capital improvement programs, and other tools, while regularly monitoring progress and making updates as needed.

Throughout this process, Media will seek input from the County planning agency, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (the regional planning organization), and other professionals who have expertise in the areas covered by the plan.
